While everyone waits to find out the whens and whats of the next Grizzly Bear album, we have the debut Cant album to tide you over. The solo project of Bear bassist-producer Chris Taylor, Dreams Come True is a cool slap of electronic pop, little orchestrations of crisp beats, synth waves and emotive vocals that convey distance and longing. Album opener "Too Late, Too Far" is a spare, tense number that seems to be constantly pivoting and turning on every successive beat -- you'll want this for your next DJ set. "BANG" (yes, all caps) is tinged with melancholia and a twitchy energy that wouldn't sound out of place on a Burial record, while the title track smears a beat with a producer's thumb to artful effect, creating a sideways electro-funk that displays Taylor's strength at the controls. Throughout the album, snatches of machine-soul, funk and electronic pop flit through his compositions, making for an equally captivating and faintly disquieting listen.
