Explosions in the Sky: Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
Label: Temporary Residence
There are no small gestures in the world of Explosions in the Sky. Even the softest moments, such as the first seven minutes of "Human Qualities," the second track on Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, transmit lifetimes of emotion and feeling. In this case, seven minutes of soft (yet rolling) instrumental-rock also lead up to a solid minute of constant detonation, EitS's grandest gesture and one they've perfected over more than 10 years together. It's the way they speak so intelligibly without any lyrics that sets this band apart. "Trembling Hands" is a full gallop, a rush and a journey with no declared destination necessary. That's the short song on the album -- the other five are each seven minutes or longer and as such speak in more nuanced language. For example, what sort of images and thoughts run through your mind upon just seeing a title like "Postcard from 1952"? Now imagine hearing it. Better yet, get a taste below. (The double-vinyl is a "super deluxe" set including a quadruple gatefold, large poster and a vinyl etching.)
