Tim Hecker: An Imaginary Country
Label: Kranky
Montreal electronicist Tim Hecker returns with another set of lush, leaned-into and full-bodied ambient pieces. And when an artist like this titles an album An Imaginary Country, you’ve almost got enough info right there—project your own thoughts into the headspace suggested by the album name and you’re getting there. Hecker seems to be scoring his panoramic visions of an idealized past that just didn’t come to be, as several of the pieces practically heave with hopefulness and joy, only to resolve in one bittersweet form or another. Deep headphone listening here. (M.L. Thrope)
