Sound Fix

Welcome: Sirs

Label: Fat Cat

Formed over 10 years ago, this Seattle quartet has found its voice with the release of Sirs – a delightful mix of ‘60s psych pop, reminiscent of the Creation, Syd-era Pink Floyd, and early Who, washed over a gritty cornerstone of classic northwest garage rock and post-rock spaz. Lurching, start-stop songs like “Actual Gland” and “Natural Frost”, anchored by co-lead singer Peter Brand’s whimsical voice and a delightful array of angular guitars and fuzz bass, are instantly lovable. And seriously, what’s not to love when Brand belts out “Go forward don’t go back / Beer and Ice Cream, Yeah!” in album opener “All Set.” Brand’s more spastic output is countered by a breath of fresh air in the Jo Claxton-helmed tracks “Bunky” and “This Minute,” reminiscent of the Breeders and Kim Deal’s Pixies output.
